SIX-WEEK COURSES
Classes taught by Steve Dubov, MFA Stanford

Assemblage: Found-Object Sculpture, Cost: $270
Think outside the box and get inventive and eco-friendly! Create unique one-of-a-kind sculptures using inexpensive everyday recycled materials. Learn the techniques of assembling various objects, pop-rivet and solder metal, and just have a great time realizing your inner-artist and revitalizing discarded things. Class includes instructions, tools, supplies, and hand-outs. Students will procure materials while on a field trip to our favorite local recycling center.

Tuesday evenings, 6:30pm - 9:30pm
October 5th through November 9th

Sculpting the Figure, Cost: $270

Atelier 3-D offers opportunities for both beginners and advanced sculptors to work with a live model. This class is a great opportunity to train the eye and practice mastering the processes and techniques used to sculpt the human figure. Focusing on shape and form, and paying special attention to gesture, students will create accurate representations of a live model (in the same pose each week.) Working in water-based clay without an armature, participants will develop skills necessary to model the human figure and finish a large piece (up to 20 inches) while receiving personal attention throughout each session. The price of the class includes all tools, clay and one firing.

Wednesday afternoons, 1:00 – 4:00
October 6th through November 10th

Introduction to Sculpture 101, Cost: $275

Our all-time favorite class starts up again. Register early! It’s all about discovery, surprises, and personal growth in this class! Learn about processes and techniques, and experiment with new materials and creative possibilities as you move through the course of Art History the hands-on way! We will review the history of aesthetics as it relates to sculpture: students will learn about the mimetic theory while modeling in oil-based clay; they will then learn about the representational theory and its subtractive and additive methods; finally, using planes, wires and mobiles, students will practice impressionism, expressionism and abstraction. Students will create 6 finished pieces and leave with a new wealth of creative experience. The price of the class includes tools and hand-outs.

Wednesday evenings, 6:30pm - 9:30pm
October 6th through November 10th

Bronze Casting Class, Cost: $300
Here’s a great opportunity to learn and practice the ancient lost wax casting process while creating a 3-dimensional bronze, aluminum or pewter sculpture. Starting with a clay or wax sculpture (figurative or abstract) each person will learn to make an investment mold and wax positive, sprue and vent their piece, cast it in bronze; then chase and patina the finished piece. The cost includes most tools, the clay, wax and investment materials, as well as the patina chemicals and hand-outs. This class is limited to 6 students. There is a 20 pound limit per piece. The price of bronze fluctuates and is an additional charge.
